Green Sen. Janet Rice Speaks for Philippine Human Rights

On February 29, Sen. Janet Rice was kicked out of the Australian Parliament House for holding out a card that read: “Stop the Human Rights Abuses” during President Marcos’ speech in front of the Australian parliament in Canberra. Sen. Rice has been a passionate environmentalist and activist for more than thirty years, focused on the development of a caring society and a fair, clean economy. Working on campaigns such as “JobSeeker”, “End Native Forest Logging”, and “Abolish Mutual Obligations”.

“The action I took in the House today was deliberate and it is powerful. And I did it on behalf of every Filipino person whose human rights have been abused,” says Senator Janet Rice

The most powerful third forces in Australian Politics, the Australian Green Party, witnessed the event that unfolded during the Parliament. Several Senators, such as Jordan Steele-John, David Shoebridge, and Barbara Pockock, stood for the same issue.

Filipino protestors could also be seen on the premises. They stationed themselves outside of the Parliament building standing with other senators from Australian Greens.

Sen. Jordan Steele-John posted on X, “Today my friend @janet_rice was censured by the Senate for “unparliamentary conduct” by calling out Marcos Jr and the Philippines government’s human rights abuses. If the Libs thinks calling out human rights abusers is unparliamentary then they don't belong in the Senate at all.”

Meanwhile, Marcos has yet to give his comments for this ordeal as of this day.
