Noveleta Holds Pertussis ‘Vax’ Drive Amid Regional Outbreak

In response to the pertussis outbreak in Cavite province, the local government of Noveleta has launched a comprehensive vaccination campaign that started last April 2, 2024. Mayor Dino Chua and Dr. Maria Hilda Bucu lead the initiative, focusing on vaccinating infants under 2 years old to prevent disease transmission.

Despite Noveleta reporting no pertussis cases to date, officials emphasize the importance of proactive measures. The campaign includes door-to-door vaccinations, starting in Barangay Salcedo 2, facilitated by health care workers and barangay health workers.

Dr. Bucu underscores the significance of early detection, urging parents to seek medical attention for symptoms such as cough, cold, shortness of breath, or fever. “Pertussis”, she stresses, “is treatable and preventable through vaccination.”

The vaccination campaign aligns with Cavite province's state of calamity declaration, prompting a P40-million allocation from the 2024 Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund. This funding will support vaccine procurement and logistics, demonstrating the commitment to curbing the outbreak's impact through preventive measures.
