PDEA Destroys over 725 Kg Shabu, Worth 4.51B




In a resolute effort to combat the proliferation of dangerous drugs, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) incinerated a staggering 725 kilograms of shabu, estimated value at 4.51 billion pesos. The ceremony, held in barangay Aguado, Trece Martires City, Cavite, served as a poignant reminder of the agency’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding communities against the scourge of narcotics.


Assistant Secretary Nerenato A. Gumban, delivering opening remarks, underscored the imperative nature of the event, citing the firm provisions of anti-drug legislation. “According to the provisions of anti-drug law, all confiscated dangerous drugs, including those surrendered by authorities and turned over by various regional trial courts, must be destroyed” , emphasized Gumban.


The ceremony conducted on February 9, 2024, symbolized the dismantle drug trafficking networks and prevent the circulation of illicit substances. “This ceremony is PDEA’s way of assuring the public that these illicit substances are permanently destroyed, rendering them in capable of wreaking havoc in people’s lives,” added Gumban.


The highlight of the event was the meticulous destruction of the dangerous drugs, overseen by the laboratory service staff of PDEA under the supervision of Director Randy R. Pedroso. The confiscated substances included the 524 kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride, valued at 3.6 billion pesos, seized from a warehouse in Mexico, Pampanga, in September 2023. Additionally, 58 kilograms of methamphetamine were obtained from an interdiction operation, with another 60 kilograms seized in Dasmarinas. Other drugs were surrendered by regional trial courts and law enforcement agencies.


In a statement of PDEA, all the harmful substances have entirely disintegrated and cannot be reconstituted after being exposed to temperature exceeding 1000 degrees Celsius.


The disposal process adhered to the guidelines outlined in Republic Act 9165, or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation no.1, series of 2002.


The Department of the Interior and Local Government, Representatives from the Department of Justice, Chief officer of IWMI, local officials of Barangay Aguado, Trece Martires City, the Philippine National Police and other law enforcement agencies, different sectors of the society and media partners together with key PDEA officials witnessed the activity.
